I am a dance and movement artist, Qi Gong teacher and somatic movement facilitator. My creative practice explores the unfolding experience of self in relation to others, and I work with movements in performative, therapeutic, and research contexts.
I have been practising Qi Gong for 20 years and was trained in Taiwan by my teacher, Wu Chun-Lin. Through Qi Gong, I developed a passion for contemplative movement and dance.
The desire to explore my body’s potential led me to professional dance training at The Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance and Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance where I received an M.A. in Creative Practice in Dance.
Somatic practices have been a resource for my personal movement research, and the practice of the Discipline of Authentic Movement has offered me a framework to develop relational embodied awareness while being with others.
Before my dance training, I had been a visual artist working with painting and ceramics. With a B.F.A. from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, I taught children and young adults (ages 3-18) in schools and art studios in the U.S., Taiwan, and Estonia.
In New York, I co-created and presented dance performances City Walk at the WestFest dance festival and Wanderings at the NewSteps Choreographers Series. In London, I presented my M.A. thesis Gestures of Offering, a research of movement gestures that unfold in relational presence, through a series of performances.
Crossing the fields of somatic movement, dance and visual art, I have collaborated with researchers and contemplative practitioners from the Buddhist traditions to offer workshops that develop embodied awareness. In 2023, designer-researcher Kristi Kuusk and I co-created a set of multi-sensorial artefacts Moving Awareables to foster embodied care through somatic interactions.
I have been offering Qi Gong lessons, workshops, and retreats for adults in Estonia since 2016. Currently, I also offer Seitai Shiatsu massage and somatic movement therapy in one-to-one sessions.
