Somatic Bodywork and Movement Therapy

Somatic Bodywork and Movement Therapy is a holistic therapeutic approach that works with the body and mind through hands-on touch bodywork and movement practice.

Offered through one-to-one sessions, the work is grounded in principles and knowledge of The Discipline of Authentic MovementBody-Mind Centering® (Embodied Anatomy, Infant Movement Development, Movement Repatterning) and Somatic Psychology.

The sessions aim to support clients in developing embodied awareness of self and experiences in the world.

I am currently training as a student (in the final year of study) at the Institute of Integrative Bodywork and Movement Therapy (I.B.M.T). The sessions I offer are at a reduced price and take place in Tallinn.

Q & A

  • Who comes for Somatic Bodywork and Movement Therapy?

People who experience physical and/or emotional pain and discomfort, and would like to work with it holistically to release held tensions or develop new ways of experiencing life.

  • What are the sessions like?

Each session is unique. It is shaped together by the client and the therapist.

At the beginning, there will be an initial discussion to understand where to bring our attention.

As the session unfolds, it may include speaking and listening, guided sensing and feeling, hands-on touch, and reflection through mindful moving or sharing. It is an open and fluid structure that emerges through the process.

  • Is it movement, talk or touch therapy?

The sessions integrate all of these elements to support the needs of the client.

We work to develop embodied awareness through moving, speaking and touch.

  • What is the role of the therapist in the session?

The therapist facilitates explorations and helps develop embodied awareness in the clients; creates and holds the space; and witnesses the process.

It is a collaborative process in which the therapist guides the client to explore ways of understanding/relating to/working with themselves.

  • What do the sessions NOT offer?

The sessions are not massages where clients passively receive bodywork.

  • What to expect from the sessions?

Each session is attended with awareness of what needs to unfold at the moment, with the knowledge, skills and caring presence of the therapist.

The sessions aim to empower individuals to participate creatively in the healing journey by developing trust in his or her inner knowledge and intuition, and acquiring skills with which to access the wisdom of the body and mind (I.B.M.T., 2024).
